On the morning of Daniel Smith’s death, we know that two pills were found on the bed that Howard K Stern was sleeping in. Anna Nicole and her son Daniel were observed sleeping together in Anna’s bed by nurses attending the late model and actress. That was the testimony given by registered nurse Nadine Carey during the Coroners Inquest into Daniel Smiths death.
Nurse Carey said that she and another nurse, Jancy Cota pulled that bed which was sitting closest to the door out into the hallway to make room for the resuscitation team when the code blue went out at 9:40am on September 10th, 2006
Other hospital employees testified earlier that Howard was sleeping in that bed.
“I noticed two tablets on the top of the sheet. I held them until the code was called off,” Ms. Carey told the court.
Ms Carey attempted to give the pills to Dr James Iferenta but was advised to give them to her nursing supervisor. Nurse Supervisor Laing gave the pills to a police officer who put them in a plastic bag.
10 witnesses were called to the stand on Tuesday.
Dr. Horizal Simmons testified that when he arrived in Ms. Smith’s room he saw Daniel, lying in a bed on his back. He added that Anna Nicole was standing at the foot of the bed with Howard K Stern standing beside her with his arms around her in a “supportive manner.”
Dr. Simmons who said there was neither a pulse nor heartbeat present said he began a cardiac massage and continued until an emergency response team arrived.
Francis Woodside, a nursing assistant, told the court that when she went into Ms. Smith’s room the night before her son died there were three persons in the room along with the patient and her baby. Daniel Smith, Mr. Stern and a “white headed gentleman” that she could not identify by name.
Ms. Woodside said she entered Ms. Smith’s room three more times during her 11:30pm to 7:30am shift with the last time being around 6am, to take the patient’s vital signs.
The nursing assistant said that during the 6am visit, she observed Daniel lying in bed wrapped in his mother’s arms.
Registered nurse and mid-wife Janice Knowles, testified that she last saw Smith alive at 5:30am on September 10, 2006, when she came to take the baby out of the room and into the nursery. She said that Daniel did not want the baby to leave the room, but she was taken anyway.
Next to take the stand was Mavis Davis, a certified phlebotomist. She told the court that she last saw Daniel Smith alive around 6:20am when she went to draw blood from his mother. She said at the time, she saw Daniel making adjustments to his mother’s bed.
Patrice Hanna, told the court that a registered nurse and midwife was the first of two nurses to respond to the code blue that went out, some three hours and 20 minutes after Mavis Davis last saw Smith alive.
Two nurses, Coralee Young and Catriona McTaggert, testified that Ms. Smith was “hysterical and screaming” during the resuscitation efforts.
Ms. McTaggert said even after doctors called off their resuscitation efforts after 25 minutes of trying to revive Daniel, his mother still attempted to do chest compressions and asked Mr. Stern for assistance with ventilation.
Ms. Hanna told the court that a white pill was later found in one of the beds in Ms. Smith’s room. It was unclear whether the pill was found in the bed occupied by Mr. Stern or by the Smiths.
Virgie Arthur and Howard K Stern were among those in court on Tuesday.
The Inquest will resume December 10th, 2007

I think this changes the picture of where and how the pills were found. THey were not IN the bed where howard slept. They were found ON the top sheet. AND we do not know for sure what bed they were found in or on. still a mystery why lying on the top sheet.Un less after he was taken out of the bed,the nurses, found them and just put them on the top sheet to deal with later.So they would have been in ANNA”S bed. Daniel came straight from the airport to the hospital, so he must have had the pills when he left CA. I don’t believe Anna had Meth in pill form, i have always heard she liked the liquid. AND i am sure if there was murder in mind, Howard woukld be smart enough not to give Daniel any pills to save untill later. this Texas bunch have a pipe dream, and i just wonder what they are smoking in tht pipe

Drugs are so easy for ‘especially’ young people to get.
So, many celebrities have lost ‘their’ children, and even ordinary, every-day folks…lots and lots of ordinary, every-day folks…
Especially those living in poverty, and just makes your heart ache to think of all that wasted sex…that was never meant to be love.
It ‘is’ what ‘it’ is.
Not like a once famous President said, “…it’s according to what ‘is’ is.
Or whatever he said, that was a bunch of nonsense getting him off the hook…yet there he is along side OJ…and so many others, just making money, it seems.
“The Law” seems all out of whack, these days… and it’s probably pretty hard for young people to ‘know’ what ‘THE TRUTH’ really is.
I’m rather ashamed to be an American, these days.

I sure did like Howard’s eulogy, especially the part about…”The Truth.”

Ok I found this and just had to post about it. I have seen reported that Daniel had abrasions around the pelvic area. Then I saw this interview with Dr.Wecht. Here is th exert:
COOPER: Dr. Wecht, in terms of the autopsy you did on Daniel Smith, was there anything suspicious, in terms of the cause of death? What actually was the cause of death?
WECHT: No, there was nothing suspicious, externally, not a mark on the body, no injection sites, no evidence of physical violence or trauma, and nothing at all.
And, then inside, although the organs and tissues, of course, had been removed from their moorings in situ, and dissected, they were still all present. The answer to your question is, there was nothing abnormal.
What killed him were the three drugs acting in concert. The methadone would have been the most important, and the two antidepressants Zoloft and Lexapro, which also exert a deleterious effect on the cardiovascular system, the central nervous system.
I think, in the case of Daniel Smith, we will never be able to prove it, because, once a person dies, you cannot see a functional or physiological entity or change.

Freida, i have to agree wih you about Vergie and Anna. They wer TOO much alike to get along, PoWER TRIP i call it. vergie i am sure has love for the family that she has kept close to her,and I also believe she is control of them. If that sounds familiar. she could not conteol Anna, and Anna could not control her. So Anna having to be able to be in control, Controlled the time if any, that Vergie, spent with Daniel.and what kind of time she would spend with Anna[I also believe that Anna, got he nmean side from Vergie. And her trying to cheat people out of what was really theirs. Howard was a novice, when he met Anna, and i doubt if he knew what hit him, But he gave up his law practice, that he had, with other young lawyers, to do Anna.s bidding. And I feel the same way about Larry, he was totally out of his element also. I believe he thought, that Anna truly loved him, wanted his baby, and they would get married and ride into the sunset together. He wanted to keep working to support his little family, he did’nt get. But in my heart, i do believe that God stepped in and saved Dannielynn, from who knows what kid of life. When everyone keeps saying for Larry, to quit taking pictures, of her, they must forget, that Larry did not have a lot of money, and this is his way of supporting Dannie.And Anna would have been doing it a lot more. He is not taking any of her money, that i know of to spend. So they should leave him alone. I feel safe from the crazies her for saying that. On Arts I would be tied by my ankles, and whipped and given a grammar lesson. a good blog to read is on qvs, blog roll. its called INTERNET CRAZIES, and you will recognize the story and some of the players, as you read it. You know as well as I do that we’re all just guessing, and judging…unless you really knew these people personally…and even then unless you live inside someone’s ‘skin’ sometimes you don’t really ‘know’ them.

Hope you didn’t work too hard ‘slaving’ in the kitchen today.
I had this Thanksgiving off, and my teenage daughter cooked her first ‘Thanksgiving Dinner’ all by herself this year…just for her Daddy…and they’re thousands of miles away, while I try to sell an old house.
I kind of enjoyed not having to cook, and being by myself.
They say absence makes the heart grow fonder.
Yet, I really do enjoy not having all that dirty laundry, and those dirty dishes, and all that mess I used to clean up.
Actually, I maybe enjoy it too, much, LOL.
Wish I was as assertive ‘in person’ as I am here…or just a little aggressive…or more outgoing and energetic.
Wish I was younger, too!
