It was always confidential, wasn’t it?
I have only one thing to say, if it’s confidential, Howie didn’t win a thing. The settlement was probably between the insurance company and Stern, and it paid Woodie’s fees. O’Quinn cannot control what the insurance company(who hired Klein) does. And Folks, Christmas is coming and Woodie was supposed working for peanuts. Howie didn’t win. OQuinn didn’t lose. But it was sure fun to watch.
For Howie to have won, O’Quinn would have had to make a public retraction of his statements (after all, didn’t Stern sue to clear his “good” name?). Until I see that retraction, I will remember the Steve Thomas “settlement” and laugh like hell.
It is MY BELIEF that Howie is responsible for the deaths of two people and many other things. This settlement has done NOTHING to clear Howie’s “good” name. Any money to be pocketed is Lin Woods.
Great moral and financial victory for Howard K Stern and his family.Justice has prevailed.

Good question, SC….why don’t you ASK him why he settled for nothing? He probably got Woodie’s fees paid, but Stern got the bird finger. It was Stern who accepted, not OQuinn, who cannot control the insurance company making an offer. Stern caved because he knew going to court would get him NOTHING.

Ofcourse, Stern caved, had a bitch fit when the Judge granted the Mediation Continuance. They had to do some “on the knees” begging to get Klein out of bed to proceed. Woodie and Stern desperate for a Settlement before the “Summary Judgement” Hearing. Totally dropped their quest for “Punitive Damages”. Doesn’t sound like they were confident in their Case at all.

There is no way for anyone to know what the settlement was or who wanted to settle. It was confidential. I think unless someone has something factual to gloat about, they should temper their comments and stick to facts that are provable.

Right Cassie. Also wanted to add that when a person has liability insurance, they have no control over their insurance company. The insurance company has the final say. My own opinion. I can not see John O’Quinn giving Howard K. Stern one thin dime out of his pocket.

I thought Howard wanted to clear his name? If so, he would have wanted the terms to be public or at least partial terms. That fact alone tells a story. There is no clearing of your name in a confidential settlement.
Will Wood have a public statement to make or will this issue just be dropped and never spoken about? In a settlement favorable to the plaintiff, you would expect to hear something from them especially when they allege defamation.

I agree QV. If this had gone favorably for Howie, it would have been made public. Of course, Wood is the king of spin when it comes to settlements, and likes for the public to believe that he always prevails.
On the other hand, O’Quinn is probably tickled that he can focus more on the Texas suits and justice for Anna and Daniel.

Good Afternoon, QV. It seems that everyone is speculating on this settlement deal. It’s been on my mind a lot today to, and I’d like to run something by the board.
The more I think about it, the more convinced I become that Woodie was the one who offered the settlement. I think something is about to happen that made Woodie and Stern WANT this case to be over and done with. When Klein got sick, Barth pitch a fit….Woodie was at the airport already and she was walking out to drive down…but the judge said, The man is sick, Motion Granted.
I think that was terrible news to Wood who was hoping the insurance company would offer a lucrative settlement. But he wanted it to happen immediately, so when the mediation was delayed, Wood had to make an offer attractive enough to get Klein out of bed and McCabe in from Texas right then.
The insurance company didn’t make the settlement, IMO, Woodie did. It makes sense. I wonder what is about to happen? Maybe something out of California?
Carol I hope you are right about Ca. I know they are still investigating because the PC have not been given back yet accourding to the news.

Isn’t Wood the guy who always looks to settle outside of the courtroom? Has it ever been known that he has argued a case in the courtroom? I think he took a bailout, and O”Q brushed the lint off his shoulder.
Woodie must have a mortgage payment due, and needed a quick settlement. Doubt any reached Howie’s pocket.
hahahah…yes, Woodie prefers settlements, confidential ones that he implies he’s won. Not always the case. Wood doesn’t do well, IMO as a litigator.
I think he was told to get rid of an embarrassment to the firm as a condition of sale of the firm.

Is it possible that O’Quinn now along with McCabe once all these lawsuits are over can turn around and sue the nuts over at Roses for all the nasty things they have said about them and trying to ruin their business?
