On the 22nd of January, the World Society For The Protection Of Animals received an official request from the government of Haiti.
The Director of Inspection and Vigilance for the Environment, Environmental Department who the WSPA has been in communication with wrote to the organization saying…
“After the information exchanges that we have been keeping and given the magnitude of the disaster suffered by Haiti, putting the country under great risk of infecto-contagious diseases spread and possible animal epidemic outbreaks; … both the Agriculture Department and the Environmental Department… have agreed that WSPA aid is very important… (and) suggest that WSPA should organise a trip to Haiti as soon as possible.”
The organization had already been preparing for such a request and according to their blog, http://www.animalsindisasters.typepad.com/ they are now on the ground in Port au Prince beginning field assessments to see how they can best serve the country and its animal population.
They have recent photos of the damage and the work that they are just beginning in the earthquake ravaged country.

It takes so little to feed and care for one, and give them a place to rest and play. And Vets charge a whole lot less than those ‘human doctors’ do except for dental work.

Yeah, I know. I have six and take care of the feral ones outside too. I think there is three who dine on my patio. I also built them a vaca house with three rooms and a loft and a built in furnace. I have pictures of the house I made but the roof didn’t seal because of the cold so I covered it in plastic. When I take the plastic off, Ill post the picture of the house and some of the residents.

I think you hit the nail on the head and they are trying to keep us on our toes like with “Swine Flu”. I have enough of those dang packs of anti-bacterial sanitizer stuff to last for the next 5 years from listening to their tripe.

Funny you should mention elephants. I was just reading how the animal rights groups are picketing Barnum and Bailey Circus for torturing baby elephants. What you just wrote really makes it heart wrenching because its so true that they give and receive love.
Here is a link but you may not want to look at it. It has a picture of them hurting a baby elephant. I’m so squeamish about that stuff. When the TV shows those ASPCA commercials, I have to turn it off. I try to keep aware but I can’t look.
