Howard K. Stern, Doctor Sandeep Kapoor and Doctor Kristine Eroshevich today are being arrested and charged with eight felonies. They are being charged with conspiracy to furnish controlled substances to Anna Nicole Smith between July 2004 and January 2007.

Two doctors, lawyer charged with conspiracy to furnish drugs to Anna Nicole Smith

LOS ANGELES – Two doctors and a lawyer were charged today with conspiring to furnish drugs to Anna Nichole Smith prior to her death in 2007, the District Attorney’s office announced today.

Three conspiracy charges naming the defendants were filed this afternoon in a felony complaint for arrest warrant (BA 3253907). They were variously charged in eight other felony counts.

Filing of the case by the Major Narcotics Division culminated an investigation involving the offices of the California State Attorney General and Los Angeles County District Attorney, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the California Medical Board and the California Department of Insurance.

Named in the complaint are doctors Sandeep Kapoor, 40 (dob 5-20-1968), and Khristine Eroshevich, 61 (dob 11-8-1947), and attorney Howard Kevin Stern, 40 (dob 11-29-1968). Arraignment dates for the defendants have not yet been scheduled. Bail was recommended at $20,000 for each defendant.

The conspiracy counts alleged that the three defendants conspired to furnish controlled substances to Smith from between June 5, 2004, and January 26, 2007.

Kapoor and Stern were charged with one count of unlawfully prescribing a controlled substance between June 9, 2004, and Sept. 22, 2006. Eroshevich and Stern were charged with unlawfully prescribing a controlled substance between June 5, 2004, and Jan. 26, 2007.

Kapoor and Eroshevich each was charged with one count of obtaining a prescription for opiates by “fraud, deceit or misrepresentation.” Each also was charged with one count of obtaining a prescription for opiates by giving a false name or address.

Kapoor and Stern were charged with one count of “prescribing, administering or dispensing a controlled substance to an addict.” Eroshevich was charged with the same crime in a separate count.
